The Phoenix area is home to world class
golf. The over 300 sunny days a year and average annual temperature of 72
degrees makes just about any day a year a great day for golf here. The city
boasts a wide range of golf courses, from those managed by the city's park
department to private exclusive clubs. The different hazards and courses
offer a variety of challenges for golfers of all skill levels. And the Phoenix
– Scottsdale area is home to more golf courses listed in the "USA Top 100" than
any other area in the United States. Spectacular mountain views and
brilliant sunsets are just an added bonus to golfing here. With all this,
the most difficult decision a golfer may face is choosing which courses
to play.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club
There are two courses at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. They are called
the Adobe and the Links. The Adobe golf course has a simple design that
challenges golfers. It also has rolling fairways with greens that require
accuracy. The Links course is shorter than the Adobe, but has more hazards.

City of Phoenix Golf Clubs
The
City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department oversees seven golf courses.
The City of Phoenix Golf Clubs are: Aguila, Cave Creek, Encanto 18, Encanto
9, Maryvale, Palo Verde, and Papago. All the courses are open from dawn
until dusk every day, including holidays. Tee times can be arranged up
to four days in advance by calling the course. Greens fees can cost $4
to $35. There are summer specials after 11 a.m. from June 1 to September
30.
The Foothills Golf Club
The Foothills Golf Club has 18 holes with a par 72. The course is located
near Phoenix and is surrounded by ridges and buttes. Tom Weiskopf and
Jay Morrish designed the course. The Foothills has a clubhouse, a pro
shop, and panoramic views of South Mountain.
Legacy Golf Resort
Golfers
of all skill levels will enjoy playing at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix.
The Legacy has 18 holes with fairways, hazards, and manicured greens.
Natural grasses, wild flowers, shrubs, and trees surround the course.
The course also offers scenic views of South Mountain, Squaw Peak, and
downtown Phoenix's skyline.
Palm Valley Golf Club
The
Palm Valley Golf Club offers 36 holes, a nine-hole Wedge course, and a
practice facility. The Palms course is one of the most famous championship
courses in the Phoenix area. The Lake course has a par 62. The Phoenix
Business Journal named Palm Valley Golf Club one of the best public courses
in Arizona.
Phantom Horse Golf Club
Golfers at the Phantom Horse Golf Club will enjoy the views of the Sonoran
Desert and has elevated tees on the mountainside. Golf Digest awarded
the course four stars in 2001 and named it one of the best places golfers
should play in the country. Phantom Horse has more than 6,300 yards and
has a par 71. This course is in Phoenix.
Raven Golf Club at South Mountain
The
Raven Golf Club at South Mountain is an 18-hole 7,078-yard course located
in Phoenix. The par-72 course offers views of the mountains, flower gardens,
and pine trees. The 18th hole has a lake and 428 yards. The Arizona Republic
named the Raven the No. 2 public golf course in the state.
Talking Stick
There are two Talking Stick golf courses in Phoenix. Talking Stick North
is a Scottish-links style course with angular holes. The South course
has bunkers and traditional landscaping featuring native cottonwoods and
hardwoods. Both courses have 18 holes. The North course has par 70, while
the South course has a par 71.
Thunderbirds Golf Club
Sports Illustrated named the Thunderbirds Golf Club one of the top 10
new golf courses in the United States in 2001. Thunderbirds is an 18-hole,
par-71 championship course that has five sets of tees. This course measures
4,800 to 7,013 yards. Thunderbirds Golf Club is in Phoenix.
